Are you interested in learning about practical strategies for advancing health equity with patients at your clinic site? The New York State Family Planning Training Center is hosting regional, in-person workshops for staff who provide clinical services at Family Planning Program (FPP) provider organizations. Participants in the workshop will strengthen and advance their capacity and skills talking about race, mitigating bias, and implementing strategies that advance health equity. Workshops will be facilitated by Dr. Uché Blackstock, MD, CEO/Founder of Advancing Health Equity, LLC

Click here to register for the workshop in Syracuse. Each individual should register. Space is limited. The deadline to register is September 20.

Why participate? Through the use of interactive activities and transformative deep conversations we will spark critical conversations about how bias shows up in family planning work and the ways in which systems and types of oppression, including unconscious bias, influence communication and clinical decision-making. The workshop will leave participants equipped with an understanding of the impact of power, identity, and privilege on reproductive health outcomes.

After participating in this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the impact of structural racism on reproductive health outcomes, historically and in the present-day.
  • Identify how unconscious bias, a type of oppression, influences communication and clinical decision-making with clients.
  • Use practical strategies to mitigate the detrimental effects of unconscious bias in their interactions with clients.
